OwnerRez's PayPal integration supports the following payment methods.

  • PayPal, Venmo, and Pay Later
  • Credit and debit card payments processed right on your site
  • Coming soon, Apple Pay and Google Pay
  • Local payment methods used around the world
  • Funds are credited immediately into your PayPal business account while the payment processes

PayPal Business Account

OwnerRez's PayPal integration is limited to PayPal Business accounts only - generally, a regular personal PayPal account won't work.

We recommend that users convert their regular personal PayPal account into a PayPal business account. For more information, see PayPal's How do I upgrade or downgrade my PayPal account? Help Center article.

Converting a regular personal account into a PayPal business account can take several days and may require multiple attempts to succeed.

PayPal accepts businesses with a business address and bank location in the following locations.

PayPal supports these credit cards and currencies.

Limitations

Payments

Unless Pay Later is eligible and configured, PayPal payments are limited to a single full payment made at the time of booking only.

Pay Later

PayPal offers short-term, interest-free payments that allow guests to buy now and pay later, while hosts receive payment upfront. Pay Later is included with the standard guest PayPal Checkout. However, specific Pay Later offers differ by country. The PayPal Pay Later payment option is available in the following countries, using the following currencies.

  • Australia Dollar (AU)
  • France Euro (EUR)
  • Germany Euro (EUR)
  • Great Britain Pound (GBP)
  • Italy Euro (EUR)
  • Spain Euro (EUR)
  • United States Dollar (USD)

Vrbo

Unlike most other payment processors supported by OwnerRez, PayPal's unique processing system prevents it from being used for newly created Vrbo channel-integrated bookings or automatic security deposit holds.

For more information, see the Financial Considerations section of our Vrbo Overview support article.

Other First Class Channels

Similar to the Vrbo limitation, because PayPal uses a unique processing system, it cannot be used for payments via other first-class channels that are expecting a more standard method of exchanging credit card numbers and associated information. In particular, PayPal cannot be used with our channel integration connections that allow you to collect payments directly from guests, including the following channel integrations.

  • Avanti Florida Villas
  • Crewdogs
  • Glamping Hub
  • Got2Go
  • Houfy
  • Hopper Homes
  • Lake.com
  • LocalOTA
  • Whimstay

FAQs

Potential Errors

Connecting to PayPal Failed
Permission authorization with PayPal was not successful. Details:
(580022) Invalid request parameter: {0}

This error typically happens when the underlying account isn't able to be connected yet, for one of several reasons:

  • It is a regular personal PayPal account
  • It recently was a regular personal PayPal account, and you converted it to a business PayPal account.  This can take a week or two for that to truly take effect even if the PayPal interface shows that it's "Business" right now.
  • Other potential reasons, like account verification or a security issue on the PayPal side.

If your account is or was a personal PayPal account, request the change to a business account, then wait a week and try again.  If that doesn't work, or wasn't applicable, call PayPal directly and ask why the account cannot be connected to third party apps.
