I had someone reach out to me last night and tell me that my prices were higher on my hosted website than they were on Airbnb. I knew that this had to be wrong because of the markup we have on our Airbnb listings.
So I went to our website and Airbnb's listing for one of our properties to see for myself. What I discovered was that Airbnb is showing the total price (excluding taxes) while our website is showing the total price for a stay (including taxes). This makes it appear that our prices are higher, even though they aren't.
Is there a way to set our Hosted Site to display prices the same way that Airbnb is displaying total stay prices, or is this even a good idea? It appears that Vrbo is doing a similar thing on their site as well, showing the total price before taxes.
Hello!
I did some testing on my end, and there wouldn't be a way to make it so that the total excludes taxes when searching dates on the hosted website. However, if the guest hovers over the total, it shows for a property in the search results, it lets them know that it includes fees and taxes.
If you'd rather not show the stay total in the search results, you can change the search widgets on your hosted website to not calculate the stay totals in the search results, and it would just show the range of the nightly rates instead. To do this, go to Settings > Hosted Websites > click on the site name > click on Home under Menu and Pages. On the following page, click Change Settings to the right of the search widget. You should get a pop-up where you can uncheck Calculate Stay Totals and save the changes.
Katie, I appreciate you looking into this. I don't think your suggestion would do what we would need. I'm trying to get to "comparing apples to apples", where we are presenting our prices the same way that both Airbnb and VRBO are presenting them to guests, without that taxes added.
