Either fix {BULEASE} or get rid of it
The merge field that takes users straight to sign their rental agreement ( {BULEASE} ), has been busted for about as long as I can remember. Half the time the link just straight up doesn't work, or when it does, it does buggy things like send guests to the wrong rental agreement and other fun unintended functionality. I was instructed to use {BUFIXUP} as a workaround. But there still needs to be a reliable merge field to send folks straight to the rental agreement if owner should so desire to and have a reasonable expectation that it will work. As an OwnerRez certified consultant, this issue is starting to effect my work with clients as well when they have already made headway in starting their templates and I have to troubleshoot why RAs aren't functioning as intended and dig up every use of {BULEASE} in the system and replace it with {BUFIXUP}. This may not be a true feature request, but it kind of is because we currently don't really have a consistently viable direct link merge field to the RA.
Hi, I would never describe {BUFIXUP} as a workaround. It is the recommended field code for the initial request for a rental agreement and is included in the default templates used for that purpose. It is now even more useful as the field code that initiates the My Stay process. Our upgraded contact into gathering, custom field filling, rental agreement signing, and security deposit credit card collecting page. And that is just phase one on the way to a fully functioning guest portal.
{BULEASE} is intended for sending secondary agreements and for re-sending the rental agreement if changes are made. It has also now become the 'workaround' for those who aren't ready to adopt the My Stay changes. They can still use the BULEASE code to send out documents that bypass that process.
But BULEASE has some limitations and should be used accordingly.
- It does not provide a credit card info option
- In an email template, it can be used within a hyperlink to select a specific agreement form. However, this doesn't work in channel templates, since you can't create hyperlinks. In those cases, it will select the first applicable agreement in alphabetical or assigned priority order. So if you want to send a specific agreement with BULEASE, do it by email.
One additional thing to mention is that the My Stay page now allows you to control whether you require a Rental Agreement at all. Previously, the BUFIXUP code would give you a rental agreement whether you wanted one or not. Even if you deleted all of your agreements, it would create one from the default. So those who wanted a minimalistic process had to create a minimalist agreement of some kind. Now, it actually obeys your property > rules setting regarding whether you want to use a rental agreement or not. This is a big improvement!
Hey Ozark Stays,
What you're describing here sounds like a configuration issue. If you haven't already, I would suggest writing the Helpdesk so that they can take a closer look.
That's helpful to know. This information was never shared with me in the 2 or 3 helpdesk tickets I've submitted in the past. Partially because some are probably far enough back in time that My Stay wasn't yet a released feature. Given how the future direction is pointed at this guest portal, it's probably best to route there anyway.
