Photos Overview

OwnerRez allows you to upload and store photos of your Properties into our database.  These photos are used for display in your Hosted Website, if you have one.  They are also sent automatically to your listing channels if you are using an API connection that supports that.

We've created a walk-through video about photos - specifically adding, rearranging, deleting and how they surface on your website, channels and more.  Before reading the rest of this article, watch the  Video - Adding Photos, Rearranging and Deleting.

Import Photos

Your Property Photos can be manipulated via the Photos side-menu in the Properties area.  You can also automatically import your property listing photos and other information from Airbnb or Vrbo, which will populate the photos into this area.

Add Photos

If users have images saved on their computer, they can navigate to their specific Property > Photos > Change.

Change Photos

Users can choose to accomplish the following.

  • Add images that are saved on their computer by clicking on Add Images.
  • Copy/cut and paste images by using the Paste images here tool.
  • Delete All images.

Add, Paste or Delete Images

Don't forget to click Save.

To delete an individual image, click the little [X] button in the upper right corner of that image.  A large white X will appear over the image, indicating that it will be deleted when you click the "Save" button at the very bottom of the page.

Delete Image

You can also select all images to be deleted using the Delete All button.

Mouse-over the (i) icon of an image to see information about the true size of the image.

Image Information

Users can add or edit individual image details by doing the following.

  • Clicking in the caption area to add image descriptions.
  • Clicking on the tag icon to add
    • Image descriptions
    • Room/Amenities
    • Video URLs
      • Note that YouTube and Vimeo are supported on Hosted Websites and WordPress. Other External Site designers may support different formats.
Be sure to hit Save. Changes will be saved when users click Save button at the very bottom of the page.

Add Floor Plans

Want to add a floor plan? Users have a couple of options to accomplish that.

Image Files

Add an image file of your floor plan to your Property Photos.

  • Only have a PDF file? Users can use a Convert PDF to JPG tool but the ratios may be off and the image may not display correctly. Users may have to "crop" their image to a wide format (such as 6:9) to display correctly.
  • Users could also use a Screen Capture tool, such as MS Snipping Tool,  Snagit or Greenshot to save and create an image file.

PDF Files

  • Users can upload files within their Account > Files page allowing users to copy the public URL for the file, and drop it into a menu on your Hosted Website.

Copy Public Link

Copy File Link

  • After users have uploaded the file and copied the public URL, they can navigate to Settings > Hosted Website > (select website name) > +Create Menu in the Menu & Pages tab.

Create Menu

  • The next screen allows users to enter their Menu Display Text as you'd like it to appear in your website header and the Destination URL where users will paste the public URL from their Files.

Create Menu Item

Inline Images

Users can also add inline images to either of the following.

  • Custom Hosted Website page

Users can add their floor plan image to a Custom Hosted Website Page by navigating to Settings > Hosted Website > Specific Website > Specific Custom Webpage > Upload Images or Files in the content section of the webpage.

Upload Images or Files

  • Property Description override
Users can add their floor plan image to a Property Description override by navigating to Properties > Specific Property > Description > OwnerRez Website >  > Upload Images or Files in the description section of their OwnerRez Website.

Download Photos

Users may need to download photos and can accomplish that by navigating to their specific Property > Listing Content > Photos > and clicking on the i of the specific photo they wish to download.

Download Photos

The photo will automatically open in a new tab. Users can download the photo by right-clicking on the photo and selecting Save image as... to save the photo in their selected location.

What dimensions (proportions such as 16:9) should I be uploading?

We make use of any format and will scale/trim accordingly in the cuts used by the website or channel.  However, a wide format (such as 16:9) gives the best experience, so that is generally preferred.

Should all pictures be wide versus some tall and some wide?

All should be landscape orientation (wide).  Portrait orientation is not supported as such. The system will attempt to gracefully handle portrait ones via padding and cropping, but they don't usually end up looking as good because of how web page layout design works in Hosted Websites and the various listing sites.

What is the limit on the length of the filename of an image to upload?

OwnerRez has a 192 characters limit on the length of the name of image files that are uploaded.  The photo caption can be up to 256 characters.

When adding pics it does not keep the order of my file names, and then I have to reorder them manually.

Yes, that's true - you may have to drag-and-drop the photos to reorder them when you are finished uploading.  Don't forget to save your changes by clicking the "Save" button at the very bottom of the page.

I tried to add two copies of the same photo, but it wouldn't let me.

Yes, OwnerRez is smart that way.  :-)

If you really really want to have two copies of the same photo in the same list (why?), you'll need to save it as a different supported format and re-upload.  So if it's JPEG, save it as PNG, or vice versa.  OwnerRez won't be able to figure out that the JPEG version and PNG version are really the same picture, so it'll work.
