Booking.com Payments

Examples to show to tell what payment mode the client is on at BDC via the channel tab of the booking:

1) P
ayments by booking  (not available in OZ per Sophia Kevans (she was told she was on it but only got VCC, but we are told you must be North American & have three properties, yet this property is EUR and we are seeing some people get Payments by Booking with one 1 EUR property)

Also, in the Extranet, Property > Policies, we see Payments by Booking:
2) CC details provided
On my SA:
CC details ok:
3) The problem comes when BDC says the client gets CC details but their AI overrides it and puts the property on Payments at Arrival with no notification.
Payment at arrival looks like CC details
Until you look at the bottom sync tabs & see missing CC

OwnerRez can send a message requesting a new card, but BDC, often, redacts the link in the messages. The client does not get a valid email address, but should get a phone number. The client can call or text to manually provide the CC link.

If the guest does not want to pay, the client cannot mark the card invalid as that requires the last 4 of the card. The client could wait and process at arrival, but given the number of BDC declines, this is quite awkward.
Payment at arrival means that BDC expects the host to collect payments when the guest arrives, as if the host has a hotel front desk.

If the client/guest want to cancel, that cannot be done via Extranet within 48 hours of arrival, even for a last minute booking. Both the guest and client must speak to BDC and generally BDC will send an email to the client to approve a no penalty cancellation. It can take hours on the phone (ask me how I know)
Regardng an open/bookable property not being bookable/visible. If they have this warning then they must go to their Rates & Availability > Rate plans & delete any non-refundable plans. This warning also likely means the property is on payments at arrival so do warn them to call BDC and ask about that:

To sign up for Payments on Booking, Michael has to setup a group page for 3 or more properties. Determing if one is personal or business is based on IRS tax documents not marketing:
At VRMA, Miata told me that a 1-2 property account should sign up as cash only and that will then provide the drop down option of Payment on Booking. No processing fees for 2024-25, we have been told.

Of note, in the Connect.Booking.com portal, we can override to NOT send CC details to OR, on request:
**Bookings that come in as payment on arrival or payment on booking may come in as PENDING and need confirmation as the system is pending a credit card

Booking.com (BDC) does not send 3DS tokens with cards. If the automation sends back to BDC and they request a new card through BDC, we still won't get the token. Client needs to send a Payment Request via OR instead, so they use our form which does work for 3DS verifications.
These will generate transaction logs with decline reasons of "Authentication_required", with a Network Decline Code of 1A (Visa), 65 (MasterCard), or 100(AMEX).
If failed transactions of this type are common, we recommend looking into Payments By Booking instead, where they handle all credit card transactions and pay out to the host's bank account.
