Action Required: Update Your API Integration to Include Guests on Quotes
Body
Hi [first name]!
We're contacting you because your OwnerRez account, or an API application you're associated with, has recently created quotes through the OwnerRez API without an assigned guest.
We've made a change to how the OwnerRez API handles quotes, and your integration may need to be updated to avoid errors or interruptions to your booking process.
What's changing?
As of October 21, 2026, the OwnerRez API requires all newly created quotes to have an assigned guest, unless the quote is being used strictly for a price check.
Previously, the API allowed quotes to be created without a guest. However, these quotes could not be completed through Confirm & Pay, resulting in errors when guests attempted to book.
We've corrected this behavior to prevent unbookable quotes from being created.
Action Required: Review Your API Integration
If your integration creates quotes through the OwnerRez API, please review how those quotes are being generated.
1. For quotes intended to become bookings:
- Create a guest first using POST /v2/guests. No guest details are required initially.
- Include the returned guest_id when creating the quote using POST /v2/quotes.
2. For price checks or rate lookups:
- Include test: true when calling POST /v2/quotes.
- This returns pricing information without creating a stored quote or requiring a guest.
Important: Do not create a new guest for every price check. Use test: true to avoid unnecessarily filling your guest list.
What happens if you don't update your integration?
If your integration continues creating quotes without a guest:
- Quote creation will fail: Requests to POST /v2/quotes without a guest_id or test: true will return a 400 error.
- Your booking workflow may be interrupted: If your website or application relies on these requests to generate quotes, customers may be unable to proceed to Confirm & Pay.
- Price checks may stop working: Integrations using stored quotes to retrieve pricing will need to switch to test: true.
If your integration already assigns guests to booking quotes and uses test: true for price checks, no changes are necessary.
What about existing quotes?
As part of this fix, we've removed previously stored quotes that had no assigned guest, except those associated with held dates or sent emails.
These removed quotes will no longer appear in your quote list, search results, or API responses.
Quotes that already have an assigned guest are not affected.

If you use a third-party developer or booking website provider, please share this information with them so they can verify that their integration is compatible.
