Grok

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a standard that allows AI assistants, such as Grok, to securely connect to your OwnerRez account and turn everyday questions about your vacation rental business into answers, analysis, dashboards, and files using the data already in your OwnerRez account. For more information, see our MCP Overview support article.

When you connect to the OwnerRez MCP, Grok can read your account data, including bookings, properties, guests, messages, rates, and calendars, answer questions about it, and make changes when you ask. You can ask for occupancy summaries, upcoming arrivals, or guest details in plain language instead of running reports or searching screens yourself.

Grok can also make changes through the OwnerRez API, such as editing a booking, changing rates, or sending a guest message. Use of and connection to the OwnerRez MCP are limited to OwnerRez account owners and Team Access Full Admin Staff members.

You remain in control of the connection and can disconnect it at any time in Grok under Account Settings → Connectors, select OwnerRez, and choose Remove.

Control What Grok Can Change

Grok can read your data and make changes through the OwnerRez API. You decide whether it asks first. In Grok, go to Customize > Connectors, select your OwnerRez connector, and set its Tool permissions:

  • Always allow: Grok uses these tools without asking. We recommend this for the read-only tools.
  • Needs approval: Grok asks you before each use. We recommend this for the write/delete tools, so Grok asks before every change.
  • Blocked: Grok cannot use these tools. Block the write/delete tools to stop Grok from making any changes.

When Grok asks for approval in a chat, Allow Once approves that one request, and Always Allow stops asking for that tool.

To change the access you granted, go to Settings > Advanced Tools > Connected Apps in OwnerRez, open the Grok connection, set Access level, and click Save. The change applies right away in either direction, with no need to reconnect. Read-only (GET requests only) prevents changes, regardless of Grok's settings.

In Grok, go to grok.com/connectors, find OwnerRez in the list, and click Disconnect or Remove (or go to Account Settings → Connectors, select OwnerRez, and choose Remove). This discards the connector definition and any stored OAuth tokens.

Example Prompts

A prompt is the question or request you type into Grok, in plain language. The more specific you are about properties, dates, and what you want back, the more useful the answer will be.

Some examples of prompts you can use in Grok include the following.

Daily operations

  • "What check-ins and check-outs do I have this week, by property?"
  • "Which bookings have a balance due in the next 14 days?"
  • "Do I have any inquiries or quotes that haven't turned into bookings yet?"
  • "Show me every stay at a specific property in October with guest names and totals."

Business analysis

  • "Compare occupancy for each property this summer vs. last summer."
  • "What was my average nightly rate by channel for Q3?"
  • "Which property earned the most this year, and which earned the least?"
  • "How far in advance do guests book, and is it different for direct vs. OTA bookings?"
  • "Where are my biggest availability gaps in the next 60 days?"
  • "How many repeat guests did I have this year, and which properties do they come back to?"

Visualizations

  • "Make a bar chart of this year's monthly revenue, split by property."
  • "Chart weekly occupancy for Mountain View Chalet from June through September."
  • "Show a pie chart of this year's bookings by channel."

Data export

  • "Export this year's bookings to a spreadsheet with arrival, departure, guest, channel, and total."
  • "Give me a CSV of repeat guests with stay count and last stay date."

Reviews and guests

  • "Summarize a specific property's reviews from the last 90 days. What comes up most?"
  • "Which properties have reviews mentioning cleanliness or check-in problems?"

Prompting tips (vague vs. specific)

  • Vague: "How's business?" Better: "Compare revenue and booked nights for all properties, September 2026 vs. September 2025."
  • Vague: "Show me bookings." Better: "List confirmed bookings arriving in the next 30 days, sorted by arrival date."
