You’re Invited: Join the OwnerRez WhatsApp Beta

Thanks for your interest in the WhatsApp beta! We'd like to extend an invitation to you. Before you get started, there are a few things we want you to be aware of.

There are three ways people typically get connected, depending on your current situation:

Option 1: You already have a WhatsApp Business App account

Our most successful connections have been with users who already have an established WhatsApp Business account before connecting to OwnerRez. If this is you, you can connect your existing account to OwnerRez and continue using both the mobile app and OwnerRez simultaneously.

Option 2: You don't have a WhatsApp Business account - connect using a number you own

You can create a new WhatsApp Business account directly during the OwnerRez connection flow - no need to set up the WhatsApp Business app separately. This connection type will result in WhatsApp communication only being routed through the OwnerRez inbox. If you'd prefer to have access to the WhatsApp Business mobile app alongside OwnerRez, we'd recommend downloading the app and setting up your account there first, then connecting to OwnerRez with Option 1 above.

During the connection flow, you may have the option to use a number you already own. If you want to transition your existing WhatsApp consumer number, that may be presented as an option, but it isn't available to everyone. If you do go that route, be aware that your consumer app message history may or may not carry over; we've seen both outcomes. Please read the screen carefully. Using a brand new number avoids that uncertainty entirely.

Option 3: You don't have a WhatsApp Business account - connect using "Display Name Only"

During the connection flow, some users are presented with a "Display Name Only" option. If you choose this, Meta will assign you a virtual number rather than using one you own. This option is not offered to everyone. If you are presented with, and choose this route, your WhatsApp account will only be accessible through OwnerRez - you won't have access to the WhatsApp Business mobile app or be able to use WhatsApp on your phone the way you would with a standard Business account.

With regard to options 2 and 3, what you're presented with depends entirely on what Meta shows you during the connection flow. Not all options are available to all users.

A few things to note regardless of which option you choose:

  • Meta does not allow VOIP numbers. Do not attempt to use an OwnerRez SMS number, Google Voice, Twilio, etc.
  • WhatsApp templates are not yet supported in OwnerRez. There is currently no way to set up automated messages to fire through WhatsApp from OwnerRez. This is planned for a future update, but we have no ETA at this time.
  • If enabled, Rezzy AI can respond to WhatsApp threads from the OwnerRez Inbox.
  • Once you're connected, your account will likely be "pending review" with Meta for approximately 12 to 24 hours before you can send messages through OwnerRez.
  • If the connection flow hits any stumbling points, your WhatsApp account may be temporarily restricted by Meta. If that happens, visit business.facebook.com or click the Request Review link in the email you received from Meta. This review can take up to 4 days according to Meta, though our experience has been that it's typically under 24 hours.
  • Once your account is verified, you may encounter sending failures on your first few messages from OwnerRez. This usually happens because Meta requires some accounts to have a valid payment method, tax information, time zone, and currency configured in the WhatsApp Business Account.
  • While OwnerRez doesn't charge for the integration, Meta may have its own fees for Business use. We'd recommend reviewing their billing structure directly.

Before attempting to connect WhatsApp in OwnerRez:

  • Log in to your Facebook/WhatsApp accounts in another browser tab or app.
  • Disconnect any other third-party messaging software you have connected to WhatsApp. These will no longer work once API connected through OwnerRez, and the connection flow will throw an error if you have another software connected.

This is still a private beta and we're exploring some uncharted territory. Bugs are possible! Keep in mind that the connection flow itself is managed by Meta, so some issues may be outside of our control. If we're unable to identify what went wrong from our end, you may need to reach out to Meta support directly. Either way, do reach out to us first with screenshots and a description of your issue. We'll take a look and provide guidance from there.
