Potential Action Needed: Some Stripe Processing Fees May Show as $0

Body

Hey [first name]!

We wanted to let you know about a bug we recently found and fixed in how OwnerRez records Stripe credit card processing fees.

In some cases, when Stripe reported a payment's fee a few seconds after the charge, our system didn't always create the corresponding "Credit Card Processing" expense on the booking. The payment was collected correctly, but the fee may appear as $0.00 on the Transactions and Expenses tabs and won't appear on the owner's statement.

This is now fixed. Future payments will record the correct fee, even when Stripe reports it late.

We have not automatically updated past transactions because we don't want to make changes to your historical financial records without your knowledge.

We have identified the affected bookings and listed them at the bottom of this email.

Follow these instructions to check and, if necessary,  manually add your Stripe Payment Fee.

  1. Navigate to Bookings > the specific Booking > Transactions tab > Fees.
  2. Check the Processing Fee amount on the transaction.
    1. If a processing fee amount is shown, no action is needed.
    2. If the processing fee shows $0, the transaction may have been affected by this issue.
    3. Continue following the steps below to add the missing fee.
  3. Click on the + Record Fee button.
  4. Set Category to the defaulted Credit Card Processing.
  5. Enter a Description in the Description field, and the Stripe Fee amount in the Amount field (can be found on your Stripe dashboard).
  6. Click Save.

Does this affect my numbers?

This issue did not affect the amount charged to your guests or the amount Stripe processed.

You may want to update affected historical transactions if you use Owner Statements and pass payment processing fees through to property owners as expenses. In those cases, a missing processing fee could affect the expenses and payout totals shown on an Owner Statement.

If you do not use Owner Statements or otherwise rely on these processing fee amounts for your accounting or reporting, you may not need to make any changes to past transactions.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we worked to track this down.
